Synopsis
Curated by Ding Yi Music Company’s concertmaster Fred Chan Hong Wei, with Hu Yu, renowned banhu virtuoso and professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, as Artistic Advisor, Ding Yi’s Chamber Classics – Earth: Unheard invites audiences to experience the intricacy and refinement of Chinese chamber music, evoking a sense of deep stillness after all things have settled.
Like chamber music itself—delicate yet profound—the concert presents works by outstanding artists inspired by folklore, mythology, and native traditions. Each note resonates with human emotions and the vastness of nature, sparking imagination and reflection.
The programme features all premiere works, including the Singapore premiere of Barong Dance, a sheng solo composed by Wang Chenwei and performed by Ding Yi sheng musician Soh Swee Kiat. Artistic Advisor Hu Yu will present the banhu solo Time and Again, along with his own composition, Echoes of the Mountain having its world premiere, guiding audiences to hear the voices of the earth and explore a deeper connection to nature and humanity.
Through the intricate beauty of Chinese chamber music, Earth: Unheard paints a musical canvas of cultural and natural landscapes, revealing the raw and timeless power of sound, and inviting audiences to uncover the untold stories and meanings within.
There will be an Arts Chat after the concert, conducted in Chinese.
